Talkeetna to Bird Creek, via Anchorage

We had a little bit of a "city day" today. We woke up and headed the the Flying Squirrel 🐿️, a local coffee shop and and bakery for a coffee and quiche (salmon for me). We got Espresso sour cream cake to go that we had the willpower to save for dessert tonight.

Down the road we headed to Anchorage. After a little souvenir shopping, we went for a 15 mile bike ride along the Tony Knowles costal trail. It was a beautiful ride and a quick escape from the city.

Today was reprovisioning day, hitting REI and Fred Myers (think about a store somewhere between Walmart and Target 🎯. We have another week left before we head home, mostly on the Keani Peninsula.

Tonight we are camped at Bird Creek campground, between Anchorage and Girdwood on the tidal Turnagain Arm. We have a lovely site and will undoouitably sleep well tonight.

Our drive today, about 170 miles

Our bike ride today, 16 miles.  I tried to get a picture of a FedEx aircraft, but they were parked too far away.

    Beautiful cyclist and interesting sign

View of downtown Anchorage from the bike trail

            The Turnagain Arm

Room with a view tonight, 9:45 PM

  1. Love it! You went through Palmer (and Wassilla, home of Sarah Palin, did you see Russia LOL?). I have skied that bike trail - its part of the Tour of Anchorage - to Kinkaid Park. Im enjoying the blog - will get there again soon!

  2. That is very funny.... I actually did think of that when we passed through Wassilla. I have just finished listening to Tina Fey's autobiography Bossypants. It is very funny and she had the whole story and audio of the first time she played Sarah Palin (and saw Alaska from her backyard). I would like to hear about the tour of Anchorage.... must have been fantastic
